London 2012 Olympics closes with a bang

A spectacular fireworks display and musical extravaganza has brought an end to the London 2012 Games.

Thousands of athletes joined the party in the centre of the stadium around a giant stage.

The flame has been extinguished and the flag officially handed over to the next host city Rio de Janeiro.
