Julian Assange row: South America backs Ecuador

A group of South American nations has backed Ecuador in its dispute with Britain over the founder of Wikileaks, Julian Assange.

Foreign ministers of the UNASUR regional grouping declared their solidarity with Ecuador over what they called Britain's threat to enter Ecuador's embassy in London to arrest Mr Assange.

The Wikileaks founder fled to the embassy in June to avoid extradition to Sweden over sexual assault allegations.
