Branson: West Coast bid process 'flawed'

Sir Richard Branson has said that the process behind the West Coast main line rail route franchise is "fundamentally flawed".

The Department for Transport has scrapped the decision to take the franchise off Virgin Trains and award it to FirstGroup and will re-run the whole competition.

Speaking on The World At One, the founder of the Virgin Group of companies said there had been "glaring anomalies" in the process.

And he added: "We felt right was on our side but we were glad that we did not have to go to court" telling presenter Martha Kearney "I respect the new minister for taking it on the chin... and agreeing to move the process forward."
