Philip Davies MP: DG payment is 'ultimate reward for failure'
Philip Davies MP has claimed that BBC News is in crisis and questioned the current management structure at the organisation following the recent child abuse scandal.
The Conservative MP, who sits on the Culture, Media and Sport select committee, described the year's salary paid to George Entwistle following his resignation as the "ultimate reward for failure" and questioned Lord Patten's position as chairman of the BBC Trust.
Mr Davies also said he was not surprised by the decision of the BBC's director of news, Helen Boaden, and her deputy Steve Mitchell to "step aside".
George Entwistle resigned after a Newsnight report led to a former Tory treasurer being wrongly accused of child abuse.
