Patten: It will take time to change BBC management culture

An inquiry into Newsnight's shelving of a report into sexual abuse by Jimmy Savile has criticised BBC management but found no evidence of a cover-up.

It was not done to protect tribute shows to the late DJ and presenter, as some had claimed, said the report.

Speaking on The World at One programme on BBC Radio 4, Lord Patten, chairman of the BBC Trust, told presenter Edward Stourton that its response to the "searingly honest" report, headed by Nick Pollard, a former head of Sky News, was "right".

But, he added, "it's going to take some time to change the management culture" at the BBC.
