Jimmy Savile scandal: No shame for victims, says lawyer

The scale of sexual offending carried out by Jimmy Savile is to be set out in a joint report by the Metropolitan Police and the NSPCC.

Revelations that Savile had sexually abused girls prompted hundreds of other victims to come forward.

These included those who said they were attacked on BBC premises.

Lawyer Liz Dux said for many victims the experience of telling authorities had been a cathartic one as they had then realised that they were not alone.

She added: "It has created a sea change, in that people who were in vulnerable positions in the past have seen that power is not everything, that celebrity and wealth is not everything."
