ACPO: 'Flexibility' important on police wages
The Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) has said it is important that an element of flexibility has been left on starting salaries for new police officers.
The home secretary, Theresa May, has accepted recommendations to cut the starting salary for new recruits with no experience by £4,000 to £19,000.
But recruits with more experience, such as working as special constables or PCSOs could start on a salary of up to £22,000.
Chief Constable Peter Fahy from the Acpo said he was pleased that there is still some discretion.
