Brandon Lewis: Council tax rise will 'differ around UK'

Millions of the poorest households face council tax rises because most councils in England will pass on a 10% benefit funding cut, research suggests.

Approximately three quarters of local authorities in England will ask the lowest income households to pay more council tax from April.

The Resolution Foundation said some households could pay an extra £600 a year because the government is cutting its subsidy to councils.

The Local Government Minister, Brandon Lewis, said many councils should be able to maintain the level of existing payments.
