Police pay tribute to victim in choirmaster abuse case

A woman who was indecently assaulted by a leading choir director and his ex-wife died after giving evidence during their trial, it can be revealed.

Frances Andrade, 48, is believed to have killed herself after appearing at the trial of Michael and Hilary Brewer at Manchester Crown Court.

Brewer, from Birmingham, and his ex-wife Hilary, 67, from Lancashire, have been convicted of indecent assault. The jury cleared Brewer, 68, of raping the same victim.

Detective Chief Inspector David Pester of Greater Manchester Police paid tribute to Frances Andrade, saying she showed ''incredible courage''.

''Tragically she is not here to see justice done,'' he added.
