BBC uncovers criminal conspiracy to smuggle horses into UK

A BBC investigation has found evidence of a criminal conspiracy to move horses, unsuitable for human consumption, from Ireland to England and into the food chain.

It is claimed the horses were given fake documentation and drugs to make them appear healthier.

Some were delivered to an abattoir in Cheshire. The practice is said to have been going on for years. It is not known where the horsemeat ended up.

Jennifer O'Leary from BBC Northern Ireland's Spotlight programme has the story.
