Poor weather misery for thousands

In Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England tens of thousands of people are without electricity after heavy snow and strong winds brought down power lines.

In Cumbria, police and rescue teams helped more than 70 people to safety during the night after their vehicles got stuck in snowdrifts.

The Met Office says the bad weather will continue today, as a slow moving band of snow and rain moves across the UK.
