'Liking Thatcher made you a social outcast'

Margaret Thatcher's right to buy policy helped many people who wanted to own their homes, but in mining towns most would never admit any goodwill towards the former prime minister.

The Cortonwood colliery in Yorkshire was the first mine earmarked for closure under Margaret Thatcher's government.

Local resident Julie Butterworth bought her home under right to buy and is now happy to say that she was thankful for the opportunity.

But she also revealed that during the years of the miners' strike, anyone who suggested Lady Thatcher "might be a nice person" was treated as a "social outcast".
