Grooming 'manipulates and exploits'

Over the past few years there have been a number of high profile cases where groups of men have been convicted of grooming girls for sex. Little is known about the motivation, attitudes or even background of these men.

The Home Affairs select committee is currently taking evidence on this but since 2006 the Street project in West Yorkshire, with its small group of volunteers and youth workers has been working with young people, especially men, to make sure they don't get drawn into the world of gangs, drugs or grooming.

The Today programme's reporter Zubeida Malik heard from members of Street, to find out how they work and what they have learnt.

Some of the names in this report have been changed to protect the individuals' identity.

Broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday 12 April 2013.
