The Queen and her passion for horses
Away from the demands of royal duty, the Queen's private passion is for the world of horses.
A one-off BBC documentary presented by Clare Balding charts the Queen's enduring relationship with horses and an astonishing 65-year career as one of Britain's leading breeders.
Next weekend she will be at Epsom for the Derby, which she has tried to win nine times but never succeeded - her horse, Carlton House, came third in 2011.
The film gains behind-the-scenes access to the Queen as she tries to breed a racehorse capable of winning a race like the Derby. It also has footage of the Queen as a young princess riding her first pony, Peggy.
Watch The Queen - a Passion for Horses on BBC1 on Monday 27 May at 21:00 BST or watch later on the BBC iPlayer.
