Sir Malcolm Rifkind: MI5 'not in the dock' over Woolwich

The Intelligence and Security Committee will be investigating what MI5 knew about the Woolwich murderers.

Sir Malcolm Rifkind, chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee, said that he was "very confident" that he would get to the bottom of what MI5 knew about the murder suspects.

He told Today presenter Justin Webb that he did not think that MI5 "are in the dock" over the incident in Woolwich, explaining that "we have not had anyone killed [by terrorists in the UK] since the 2005 7/7 bombings" and that was largely "because of the work of MI5".

"Their record over the last few years has been hugely impressive," he added.
