Inside the world of worm charming

The World Worm Charming Championships are being held today outside Nantwich in Cheshire.

Chief wormer and organiser of the championships, Mike Forster, told the Today programme that competitors each take a three by three metre square plot of land and try to lure the worms above ground using only vibrations.

Mr Forster said that the most popular method is to "twang" a garden fork, the worms think it's rain hitting the ground and they come up to the surface. He added that the worms "enjoy it".

First broadcast on the Today programme on Saturday 22 June.
