RSPCA welcomes killer dogs consultation
David Bowles of the RSPCA has welcomed a government consultation into proposals that owners of dogs that attack and kill someone could face life in prison, but said more needs to be done to prevent attacks in the first place.
The current maximum prison sentence for allowing a dog to be so dangerously out of control that it that kills or injures someone is two years.
The government has proposed a number of sentencing options for a fatal dog attack - from seven years to life.
Mr Bowles said the RSPCA had recommended to the government that preventative measures, such as dog behaviour lessons, should be introduced as part of the legislation.
