Public toilets 'stimulate the economy'

It is estimated that there's been a 40% drop in the number of public toilets across the UK in the last 10 years.

Speaking to the Today programme, Raymond Martin, director of the British Toilet Association, said: "Lots of councils have realised that people that come into the area bring money with them, which helps stimulate the economy, ensure growth and brings commercial business in.

"But lots of councils have decided it's just money down the drain."

First broadcast on the Today programme on Monday 19 August.
