St Jude Storm: Thousands of UK homes without power

A powerful storm has brought down power lines, cutting off electricity supplies to thousands of homes across the south of the country.

UK Energy Networks, which represents power companies across the UK, confirmed 270,000 homes were without power.

A spokesman said 30,000 people who lost power earlier had been reconnected, but more people were cut off as the storm moved north and eastwards.

Duncan Kennedy reports.
