Patient charity welcomes 'wilful neglect' jail plan

Government plans to make "wilful neglect" by doctors and nurses a criminal offence are only a small part of the changes required to improve standards, a patient safety charity has said.

Peter Walsh, of Action Against Medical Accidents, told the BBC that all the main recommendations of the Robert Francis inquiry into the Mid Staffordshire scandal should be implemented.

Doctors' leaders have warned that the threat of criminal sanctions could create a climate of fear in the NHS.
