Dad's 'elation' as cyclist son speaks again after coma

A teenage cyclist, who was left in a coma after a road accident, has spoken for the first time since his accident.

Ryan Smith, 16 from Lincolnshire, was not wearing a helmet when he collided with a van on 22 July.

Dad Mark Smith, who is now campaigning for all cyclists to wear helmets, told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast: "I said hello and he said hello back."

"It was a lot of effort but he did it... I was jumping around, crying like a baby. Pure elation."
