Online Christmas boost for department stores

House of Fraser has reported its best ever Christmas period after a last-minute rush to stores and a record increase in online shopping.

John Lewis also said its sales rose significantly, but Debenhams has been faring less well, blaming a tough trading environment and bad weather.
