'Shocking cases' at Harmondsworth immigration centre

An 84-year-old man from Canada, who was being held at an immigration centre near Heathrow airport, died in handcuffs, a report has revealed.

The man, who had Alzheimer's disease and was declared unfit to be detained, was taken to hospital in the handcuffs where he died while still restrained, inspectors found.

HM Inspectorate of Prisons (HMIP) says that the incident was one in a series of "shocking cases" at Harmondsworth immigration removal centre.

Tom Symonds reports.
