Action to cut level crossing deaths

Some 10% of Britain's level crossings have been closed since 2010 as part of a programme to improve rail safety, Network Rail has said.

More than 700 crossings have been closed and money has been spent on power-operated gates and electronic warning systems.

Despite the improvements 10 people were killed on level crossings last year.
