'White Dee' from Benefits Street says TV fame is a shock

Deirdre Kelly, ''White Dee'' from Channel 4's Benefits Street, has told Newsnight's Emily Maitlis that being thrown into the world of television exposure was ''a real shock''.

She insisted TV bosses lied to residents about the nature of the programme. She said residents went ''absolutely mad'' at the documentary series being called Benefits Street.

Channel Four has said the programme was "fair and balanced".
