Tam Dalyell: Benn 'made people think'

Former Cabinet minister and veteran left-wing campaigner Tony Benn has died at home at the age of 88, his family has said.

Mr Benn became a Labour MP in November 1950 and served in the Cabinet under Harold Wilson and James Callaghan.

Speaking to the BBC, fellow former Labour MP Tam Dalyell described Mr Benn as a man who "made people think about politics - not to accept received wisdom."

"He challenged it. And challenged the younger generation... to think about values."
