IPCC chair: We were 'not engaging' with families

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) was "not engaging" with families during investigations, the watchdog's chair has said.

Speaking to the Today programme, Dame Anne Owers explained that "more training" is being planned to improve the "quality" of investigations and family support.

Her comments come as the IPCC plans to overhaul the way it investigates deaths of people while in police custody in England and Wales, following criticism of how the watchdog has dealt with some cases.
