Housing benefits: Scheme is 'on track', says minister

Government changes to housing benefits are "on track", employment minister Esther McVey has said.

Her comments come as new BBC research suggests only 6% of social housing tenants in Britain affected by changes designed to cut under-occupancy have moved home.

Ministers had hoped cutting benefits for tenants deemed to have a spare room would free up larger homes.

But Ms McVey said that the government figure was actually "about 8%", which had been "expected".

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday 28 March.
