Escaped rhea on the run in the Home Counties

A large South American bird that looks similar to an ostrich and can run at a speed of up to 40mph is on the loose in the Home Counties after it escaped from a field.

The rhea had been kept as a pet on the border of Essex and Hertfordshire but vanished several weeks ago and has yet to be recaptured.

The BBC's Laura Trant spoke to the bird's owner, Jo Clarke, who said it was thought to be "alive and well" and that there was no need for members of the public to be scared of it.
