Man claims Cyril Smith abused him in Rochdale hostel

A man, who claims Sir Cyril Smith abused him as a teenager, says he was unable to speak out before because of the late politician's "powerful position."

Eddy Shorrock, 69, alleged the late Liberal Democrat MP abused him whilst he was staying at Cambridge House children's hostel in Rochdale in 1962.

Mr Shorrock, who was 17 at the time, said Sir Cyril was called round to give him an "inspection" when he was off sick.

He told BBC Radio 5 live's Victoria Derbyshire: "You could not challenge someone like Cyril, he ran the hostel, he ran the town. Whatever he said, you did."

Sir Cyril's family has said he always denied such accusations.
