Queen 'stirred' by D-Day memorials

An emotional day of events commemorating the success of the D-Day landings in northern France in 1944 has ended with a banquet for 19 visiting heads of state at the Elysee Palace in Paris.

In her speech, the Queen described the emotions which had been stirred by the anniversary events and said the deeds of the Allied Forces would stand out as much in 700 years as in 70.

She also described her joy in becoming a great grandmother and said peace and prosperity must be tended so that, "never again do we have cause to build monuments to our fallen youth".
