Sir Peter Fahy: Jihad is not 'an adventure camp'

Joining jihadist groups overseas is not "an adventure camp," a leading figure in counter terrorism has warned.

It comes after a young British man, who claimed to be a jihadist, told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast he would only return to the UK from Syria to "raise the black flag of Islam over Buckingham Palace".

Sir Peter Fahy, who heads the Association of Chief Police Officers Prevent strategy, said such narratives "brainwashed impressionable young people" into thinking joining jihadist groups was "attractive".

He told programme, "It's incredibly barbaric, it's incredibly violent - people going out there at incredible personal risk... and pose a risk to this country when they come back."
