The WW1 women who sowed the seeds for independence

Wednesday marks the centenary of the last major campaign meeting by the Suffragettes before the start of World War One.

The campaign for democratic rights for women was in effect put on hold, as the demands of war took precedence.

But from 1914, some women embraced much bigger social and economic responsibilities.
