Police appeal for missing child Ashya King's return

Hampshire police say they have launched a major search operation for a missing boy who needs urgent medical care.

Five-year-old Ashya King was being treated for a brain tumour at Southampton General Hospital when detectives say he was taken by his parents, who then boarded a ferry to the French port of Cherbourg.

Assistant Chief Constable Chris Shead from Hampshire police says it is vital that Ashya is found quickly.

He added that the hospital said his feeding tube is battery operated and that battery "will run out today".
