Animal charity launches "pet-nup" for couples with pets

When a family breaks up, it is the children who often get caught in the middle, but pets are becoming the subjects of custody battles too.

Instead of a prenuptial agreement, or "pre-nup", the animal charity Blue Cross has devised a so-called "pet-nup" which clearly states who will get ownership of a pet should a couple split up.

Celebrity couples like Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, and Antonio Bandaras and Melanie Griffith have relied on them in the past, but do they hold any legal weight in Britain?

Simon Rowbotham, a barrister specialising in family law, says it is not clear whether British courts will enforce the agreements.
