Fallon: Kobane involvement 'matter for Turkish government'

Turkey's involvement in Kobane is a matter for its government, Michael Fallon has said.

But the defence secretary told the Today programme that he would nevertheless "like to see Turkey [become] more involved".

Turkey has come under increasing pressure to do more to help Kurdish forces fighting Islamic State in Kobane on the Syria-Turkey border.

Mr Fallon added: "This is a situation that can only be resolved - not just by America and by Britain - but by the region itself."

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Wednesday 8 October.
