Tougher regulations for cold calling companies

Companies which make nuisance phone calls will face tougher regulations under changes being announced by the government.

They will face fines of up to £500,000 and it will be easier to prosecute them when they break the rules.

Last year more than 175,000 complaints were made to the Information Commissioner about nuisance calls and text messages but only a very small number of people were prosecuted.

Emma Simpson reports.
