Tony Blair: 'It's a dirty and difficult war'

The former Labour prime minister Tony Blair says he always felt it was "right and justified" to send troops to Afghanistan but that he understood there was no way to provide consolation to the families of the men and women who lost their lives fighting there.

He said the war against Islamic extremism was a completely different type of combat.
