Fracking bids: Ministers to step in if councils too slow

Ministers are to be given the power to decide whether or not to approve applications for fracking - if local authorities are deemed to be taking too long to process them.

Councils that repeatedly take longer than 16 weeks to make a decision may lose the right to preside over future applications.

Environmental groups say the move will deny local residents a say.
