Apprenticeships expansion 'devaluing brand'

The education watchdog Ofsted has criticised the standard of apprenticeships, claiming that many are being used to provide a qualification in low level skills.

It says that many of the courses on offer are failing to add value to the economy and are a waste of public money.

Ofsted chief Sir Michael Wilshaw says some learners are not even aware they are on apprenticeship schemes.

Robert Pigott reports.
