'Hidden castle' builder given suspended sentence

A Surrey farmer who built a mock-Tudor castle without planning permission has been given a three-month suspended sentence.

Robert Fidler, 66, built the four-bedroom home in 2000, concealing construction behind bales of hay.

A High Court judge agreed with the council's claim that Mr Fidler was in contempt of court for not complying with an enforcement notice.

Duncan Kennedy reports.
