Chair of the Metropolitan Police Federation on increase in armed officers in London

Six hundred extra armed officers are to be trained to help counter the threat of a terrorist attack in London, the Metropolitan Police has announced.

"We need to up our game in terms of the number of officers available with firearms," chair of the Metropolitan Police Federation Ken Marsh told the Today programme, but explained this does not mean the Met Police has become an armed force.

"We will never give up the fact that we are not an armed force", he said.
