Potential Tata buyer 'wouldn't make mass redundancies'

There won't be mass redundancies if Tata Steel is bought by commodities firm Liberty House, the company's chief executive said.

Sanjeev Gupta, who is interested in buying Tata's British steel operations, said blast furnaces at Port Talbot would close under his plan.

"If we get involved in anything in the UK and certainly in Port Talbot then we we will only do on the basis that we are confident there will not be any mass redundancies," he said.

"We will look to transition the people who work on the blast furnaces to our furnaces." Mr Gupta added.
