The number of clubs involved in the police inquiry into child abuse in football has reached 55 and is expected to rise further, the lead for child protection on the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) has said.

Chief Constable Simon Bailey told the Victoria Derbyshire programme the clubs ranged from those in the Premier League to those at the grassroots level.

The Victoria Derbyshire programme is broadcast on weekdays between 09:00 and 11:00 on BBC Two and the BBC News channel.
