The last toll of Big Ben

The Elizabeth Tower, which houses Big Ben, is closing to the public on Friday 16 December to undergo a £29m facelift.

Scaffolding is expected to be up for about three years and during that time the bells will stop for around six months.

Steve Jaggs, the keeper of the Great Clock, took the Today programme on a last trip up the tower before works begin.
