Is the gender pay gap down to choice?

Female workers continue to face a "rapid rise" in pay inequality when they get into their 30s and 40s, according to the Resolution Foundation.

Jill Kirby, a writer and commentator on family policy and former director of the think tank the Centre for Policy Studies says the pay gap is down to women "choosing" to take less demanding jobs in order to have a family.

Jo Swinson, a former Liberal Democrat MP and business minister, now Director of Equal Power Consulting, disagrees saying that it was "misleading and unhelpful" to suggest there was a choice.
