Anson Chan warns Hong Kong democracy is under threat

One of Hong Kong's most respected figures says the "one country, two systems" form of rule is under threat, and the UK is turning a blind eye.

Anson Chan, former Hong Kong chief secretary, told BBC Newsnight that China is clamping down on freedoms.

"Should we all fear a midnight knock on the door?" she said, citing the alleged kidnapping by China of five booksellers, and other rights abuses.

The booksellers disappeared in 2015 and re-appeared later on the mainland.
