Hidden camera caught carers abusing Dora Melton at home

A hidden camera caught husband and wife carers Maurice and Deborah Campbell assaulting and abusing 86 year old dementia sufferer Dora Melton in her own home.

The abuse was uncovered by Dora’s daughter Elizabeth Budnik. She spoke exclusively to File on 4 about what her mother had endured:

“I’ve put these people in I’ve put these people in to look after my mum and what have they done? They haven’t looked after her, they’ve hurt her.”

Last year Maurice and Deborah Campbell both pleaded guilty to ill treatment and wilful neglect. Maurice Campbell was sentenced to 28 months in jail and Deborah Campbell was given a jail sentence of 38 weeks, suspended for 2 years.

Research by File on 4 revealed thousands of allegations of abuse made to councils about home carers in the last 3 years, the majority relating to neglect.

The programme will be broadcast on Tuesday 28th February at 8.00pm
