Camden evacuation: Flats 'far too dangerous' - expert

The decision to evacuate flats in Camden over fire safety fears has been welcomed by a chartered surveyor and fire safety expert.

Arnold Tarling told 5 live Breakfast: “It’s far too dangerous to leave people in such premises… [I take] my hat off to Camden council, the first council to make a proper evacuation of buildings - good for them - what about the others?”

More than 700 flats in tower blocks on an estate in the Swiss Cottage area of north-west London have been evacuated because of fire safety concerns.

Camden Council said people in four towers on the Chalcots estate were moved for "urgent fire safety works".

On the Grenfell Tower fire Mr Tarling added: “It is wicked that this has happened, things have to change.”
