King Charles III responds to condolences in Westminster

King Charles III has made his first visit to Parliament as monarch, with MPs and peers offering their condolences to him and the Queen Consort.

Making his reply, the King said connections to his "darling later mother" are all around Parliament, which is the "living and breathing instrument" of the nation's democracy.

He also made a reference to Shakespeare's Henry VIII, where Elizabeth I is described as "a pattern to all princes living".
